roadmapping methodology
The basic methodology for roadmapping is described in the following infographic.
There are numerous variations depending the purpose of the event.
1. On the table, you see the sketched map.
It travels from left to right!
Choose a captain, who’ll explain the map
at the end of the workshop.
2. Discuss with your group which developments
you want to give voice to.
Tell your story with the use of symbols.
Don’t forget to provide the symbols with text.
3. You can use geographical metaphors to
portray events and emotions in a way
everyone will understand. Get creative!
4. When you’ve put a few points of interest
on the map, it’s time to pass these down to
the cartographer.
He’ll create the collective map developed
over the course of the workshop.
4a. Depending the size of the group of
participants and the purpose of the event,
there can be interviews by our facilitators
at the tables and recordings of the evolution
of the maps during the roadmapping
sessions.
5. During the plenary part of the workshop,
every group explains their map to the other
participants. This is the moment for questions,
discussions, new insights and choices.
6. The cartographer shows the collective map
on the big screen. In a plenary discussion
the map is finalized.
This is where all insights congregate and if necessary,
all people involved commit themselves to the chosen path at the roadmap.
